Kings and Queens of the Underground Vol.1: The Stove God: King of the Cuse

In volume 1 of the Kings and Queens series we highlight the Syracuse New York standout Stove God Cooks. The Stove God, formerly rapping under his given name Aaron Cooks, boasts not only one of the most unique names in Hip-Hop but also one of the most Unique sounds. In an Interview with  Peter Rosenberg, Cooks credits rappers of the late 90s and early 2000's such as Noreaga and Hald-A-Mill being influential in developing his love for Hip-Hop. These rappers along with Cooks older brother would help him develop eccentric style the underground would learn to love.

The Stove God began rapping by reciting the rhymes of  his older brother as his own . He recalls the rhymes being so dope those around him wanted to here more. This forced him to begin writing his own raps and develop the style that would shake the entire underground. Cook's love for Hip-Hop and new found voice pushed him into the studio where he would record countless songs. During this time Cooks not only improved his rapping skill, but began sharpening his songwriting swords learning to write hooks and master melodies. It would be this version of Cooks that be discovered on Twitter by the legendary rapper, producer, and Grand Nubian founding member Lord Jamar.

Lord Jamar would begin managing Cooks, connecting the young rapper with Legendary rapper and executive Busta Rhymes. Cooks, officially rapping under his government name Aaron Cooks at this time would then sign with Rhymes' Conglomerate Ent. During this time Cooks would be featured in the 2016 BET Awards Cypher, Sway in the Mornings Friday Fire Cypher, and laid a stand out verse on the Conway the Machine Track Ghost Muzik. Although these moves should have provided the traction necessary for a debut project Cook's wouldn't release much music at all during this period. What Cooks did get during his time under the wing of Busta Rhymes was a relationship with former Flipmode rapper and another current Underground King Roc Marciano.

This Relationship would lead to the development of Stove God Cooks and his long awaited debut project Reasonable Drought. The landscape of beats, all of which produced by Roc Marciano, married with the unorthodox flows, face scrunching bars, and imprevisively constructed hooks of The Stove God creates an unskippable 12 track classic. Although it falls a ways short of the consensus classic by Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt which it pays homage too Reasonable Drought and Stove God Cooks himself more than earn the right to pay homage to one of the GOATS. Now we continue the wait for the Second coming of The Stove God, and if rumors are true The Stove God might return with The Fly God by his side.
